Rogers Plumps for Arsenal Despite Heskey's Warning Over Villa Status

Morgan Rogers has settled on Arsenal as his summer destination of choice, though he's received a stern word of caution from an unlikely source.

The Aston Villa winger, who's attracted keen attention from multiple Premier League suitors, has identified the Gunners as his preferred club ahead of the transfer window. The north London side are reportedly prepared to splash out £80m to land him at the Emirates.

Yet Emile Heskey, the former Liverpool and England striker, has offered Rogers some food for thought. The ex-international questioned whether swapping Villa for Arsenal truly makes sense for a player currently at the peak of his powers.

Heskey's central concern centres on Rogers' standing within each squad. "He's top of the pile at Villa, he is the main man," Heskey explained to The Metro. "If he goes to Arsenal, where would he be in that pecking order and does it suit the way he plays?"

The warning carries weight given Rogers' stellar campaign for Unai Emery's outfit. The 24-year-old fired in 14 goals and chipped in with 11 assists across all competitions as Villa finished fourth in the Premier League and captured the Europa League. That's the sort of form that makes any player the focal point of their team's attacking play.

Heskey acknowledged the magnetism of Arsenal's pull but stressed that Rogers must weigh up his priorities carefully. "You have to look at who is ahead of you in both teams," he said. "He is a very intelligent player so I'm sure it would suit him. But he has to figure out what he wants from his career."

Competition for Rogers' signature remains fierce, with Chelsea and other Premier League heavyweights circling.

The 24-year-old's stock has soared further following his inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the upcoming World Cup. Alan Shearer has already made the case that Rogers deserves to start ahead of Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham in the tournament opener.

Heskey concurs with that assessment. He reckons Rogers' consistency throughout the season edges out Bellingham, though he acknowledged the Real Madrid man's pedigree. "You have to go off form," Heskey reasoned. "Rogers has had a more consistent season. Jude is Jude, but you have to go with what's in front of you. Rogers has taken things by storm. Some of the football he's been playing has been very good, very intelligent. Villa winning the Europa and being one of the mainstays of that success has been fantastic."

Whether Rogers can replicate that form under Arsenal's management, or maintain his status as a club's principal attacking threat, remains the central question.
