Flick Gives Rashford the Nod as Barcelona Eye Permanent Deal

Hansi Flick has thrown his weight behind bringing Marcus Rashford to Barcelona on a permanent basis, with the German manager personally blessing the move after an impressive loan spell at the club.

The Manchester United winger's journey to the Nou Camp has been anything but straightforward. Rashford harboured designs on joining Barcelona back in January 2025, but when that window slammed shut without a deal materialising, he pitched up at Aston Villa for a six-month stint instead. This summer, his Barcelona dream finally materialised with a loan move.

His impact has been impossible to ignore. Fourteen goals and fourteen assists across all competitions have caught the eye in La Liga, and he played a starring role as Barcelona claimed their second consecutive title. Flick, clearly impressed, now wants to make the arrangement permanent rather than simply extend the loan.

Matteo Morreto reported that Flick has handed his seal of approval, with the manager keen to secure Rashford outright. The forward, for his part, has signalled his willingness to take a financial hit to make the move stick.

The mechanics of a deal remain the sticking point. Manchester United hold a €30m (£26m) purchase option buried in the loan agreement, which ought to keep negotiations straightforward. Yet Barcelona, as ever, are proving difficult customers. The club's financial constraints have prompted them to explore alternative payment arrangements, hoping to avoid stumping up the full sum in one instalment.

United, meanwhile, are holding firm on their asking price. Real Madrid have been mentioned in passing as a potential alternative, while Aston Villa—Rashford's previous temporary home—are apparently standing by to pounce should the Barcelona deal collapse.

However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Rashford himself has left no room for ambiguity. The player wants Barcelona and Barcelona alone, both publicly and behind closed doors. He has already agreed personal terms with the club.

Romano's latest assessment suggests the conversations between all parties remain active. The sticking point remains Barcelona's desire to structure the payment differently, whilst United refuse to budge from their €30m demand. With Flick now personally invested in the outcome, there may yet be a path to resolution that satisfies everyone.
