Rashford Open to Fresh Start at Old Trafford Under Carrick, Says Romano

Marcus Rashford appears ready to give his Manchester United career another go under Michael Carrick's management, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have recently initiated talks with Rashford's representatives about his immediate future, with the club keen to have the England international feature in pre-season preparations. This comes after Barcelona opted against exercising their £26million purchase option on the winger, who spent the previous campaign on loan at Camp Nou.

Rashford's loan spell in Spain proved productive, helping Hansi Flick's side secure LaLiga glory, but the Catalan club ultimately decided against making the arrangement permanent. While Barcelona remain open to another temporary deal, United have made clear they're not entertaining further loan moves.

The 26-year-old is currently representing England at the ongoing 2026 World Cup, yet behind-the-scenes discussions with Old Trafford have been gathering pace. Romano confirmed that Rashford hasn't closed the door on reintegrating himself into Carrick's squad, marking a potential turning point after an unsettled period that saw various speculation linking him away from the club.

United's hierarchy have signalled their willingness to welcome Rashford back into the fold for the summer programme, with Carrick – who has replaced Ruben Amorim in the dugout – keen to assess the forward's fitness and form. It remains unclear whether this represents a fresh beginning or merely a staging post, particularly given Rashford possesses a release clause and remains contracted until 2028.

Romano noted that other clubs could yet emerge with concrete interest, potentially triggering a move away. However, for now, both parties appear aligned on giving the relationship another chance when the international break concludes.
