Two Major Obstacles Stand Between Manchester United and Real Madrid's Tchouameni

Manchester United's summer ambitions in the transfer market face a significant stumbling block in their pursuit of Real Madrid's Aurélien Tchouameni, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have already secured Ederson Silva from Atalanta, yet INEOS hierarchy remains keen to bolster their midfield ranks further. Mateus Fernandes tops United's shopping list as the primary midfield target, with West Ham demanding £80million for the Portuguese international. Other options on the club's radar include Newcastle's Sandro Tonali and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton.
Tchouameni, however, has long captured United's imagination. Romano previously confirmed in May that the France international represents a "dream" acquisition for the Premier League side, who will contest the Champions League next season under Michael Carrick's management. This interest intensified following a reported training ground altercation between Tchouameni and Real Madrid teammate Federico Valverde.
The Two-Pronged Problem
Despite the undeniable appeal, Romano has outlined precisely why United's path to the Bernabéu star remains fraught with difficulty. The first obstacle concerns Real Madrid's unwillingness to entertain his departure. The Spanish giants currently view Tchouameni as integral to their present and future plans, with no indication they're prepared to negotiate a sale.
The second barrier proves equally formidable: wages. Tchouameni commands a substantial salary package at Real Madrid—one that United's financial blueprint never factored into their planning. Matching such terms would represent a departure from the club's current spending strategy.
Romano emphasised United's genuine admiration for the midfielder, describing him as the perfect defensive midfield replacement for Casemiro. His European pedigree and elite status make him an undeniable fit for Old Trafford's requirements. Yet the transfer guru stressed that bridging the gap between ambition and reality hinges entirely on Real Madrid's willingness to budge.
"There is no doubt at all that Man Utd dream and love Aurélien Tchouameni," Romano stated, before cautioning that the club must remain realistic about the twin obstacles blocking any potential move.
Liverpool have also registered interest in Tchouameni, who currently stands as Madrid's only senior pure defensive midfielder. Recent speculation suggested Los Blancos might consider selling this summer, yet Romano's assessment indicates that prospect remains distant barring a significant shift in circumstances.
