United Plot Bold Midfield Overhaul: Anderson and Gibbs-White in Sights

Manchester United are gearing up for an ambitious raid on Nottingham Forest's midfield this summer, with the club's hierarchy eyeing two of the City Ground's prized assets.

With Champions League football secured for next season, INEOS are plotting a significant rebuild in the middle of the park. Casemiro is set to depart when his contract expires, while Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly keen to move Manuel Ugarte on as well. An attacking midfielder capable of operating on the left flank is also high on their wishlist.

The Red Devils have zeroed in on Forest's Elliot Anderson and Morgan Gibbs-White as solutions to their midfield woes. United are prepared to splash €200 million (£173m) to land both talents, according to reports from Italian outlets.

Anderson, the England international, carries a €120 million (£104m) price tag. INEOS view the midfielder as the natural successor to the club's midfield foundations. Gibbs-White, meanwhile, would command approximately €80 million (£69m), with United attracted to his flexibility—capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes' understudy, or on the wing. His ability to unlock defences and create between the lines appeals to a United side that has lacked depth in attacking areas.

The complications, however, could prove substantial. Forest's trajectory in European competition may make them far less willing to negotiate. Currently perched perilously close to the Championship drop zone—just five points clear of the bottom three—Nuno Espírito Santo's side have nonetheless reached the Europa League semi-finals. A triumph in that competition would secure Champions League football, fundamentally altering their negotiating position.

Forest claimed a 1-0 victory at home to Aston Villa in their semi-final opener on Thursday, positioning themselves perfectly for next week's return leg. Pereira addressed the occasion afterwards, praising his squad's character and the atmosphere generated by their supporters. "This is a special group of players with character," he reflected. "We have created this special energy between us and the supporters; they were fantastic again and they help us a lot."

Convincing Forest to part with two of their finest midfielders will require United to move decisively—and that task becomes significantly harder if European silverware heads to the East Midlands.
