Ratcliffe Holds Out Hope on Kane Despite Bayern Star's Clear Preference to Stay

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's long-standing ambition to lure Harry Kane to Old Trafford refuses to die, though the Manchester United co-owner faces a waiting game as the Bayern Munich forward shows every sign of committing his future to the Allianz Arena.

Kane has featured prominently on United's wishlist for years, most notably after the club failed to land him in summer 2023 when he departed Tottenham for Germany instead. That disappointment has scarcely dimmed Ratcliffe's appetite, and fresh reports this month confirm the INEOS supremo remains a keen admirer.

United's Champions League qualification—secured under interim boss Michael Carrick's stewardship—might ordinarily prove an attractive proposition. Yet Kane appears unmoved by the prospect of a switch to Manchester, with Bayern offering a new deal through to 2028 that the 32-year-old appears ready to sign.

Chelsea and Tottenham have also been kept briefed on Kane's situation, positioning themselves as interested parties should circumstances shift. For now, though, the striker's camp is sending the clearest of messages: a Premier League return is not on the immediate horizon.

Intriguingly, Kane harbours a grander ambition that might yet bring him home. His career objective is to become the Premier League's all-time leading goalscorer—a target that currently sits 47 goals away. Alan Shearer holds the record with 260, with Kane currently second on 213. That unfinished business could yet prove decisive.

Bayern themselves are eager to extend their prize asset's contract and keep him in Munich. Kane has flourished in the Bundesliga, amassing 139 goals and 33 assists across 143 appearances while winning back-to-back league titles.

However, journalist Christian Falk has suggested PSG's interest could complicate matters. Writing in early May, Falk noted the French club's determination to splash serious cash on a striker of Kane's calibre. He observed that Kane's family appeared settled and content in Munich following Bayern's Champions League exit to PSG, with his wife, father, and brother all present at a subsequent gathering. Yet Falk acknowledged that should Bayern sweep all available honours this season, Kane might fancy a fresh challenge—and a move to Paris would certainly bring him geographically closer to England.

For now, the signs point to Kane remaining put. But in football, circumstances can shift rapidly, and Ratcliffe's patience may yet be rewarded.
