Bayern Munich Rule Out Rashford Pursuit as Gordon Talks Drag On

Bayern Munich have definitively ruled out making a move for Marcus Rashford, even if their pursuit of Anthony Gordon reaches a dead end, according to reporting from German journalist Christian Falk.

The Bavarian outfit have been locked in preliminary discussions over Newcastle's winger Gordon, with the player himself open to the switch. However, the clubs remain some distance apart on valuation, with Newcastle holding firm at around £80m whilst Bayern's board would prefer to operate in the £60m ballpark.

Falk has stated unequivocally that Rashford simply does not feature on Bayern's list of alternatives. The German champions maintain an extensive pool of targets, but the Manchester United loanee is not among them.

Rashford's Barcelona Stalemate

The 28-year-old's situation at Barcelona remains frozen in a familiar stalemate. His temporary spell at the Catalan club is scheduled to conclude at season's end, at which point he would ordinarily return to Old Trafford. Barcelona hold an option to make the arrangement permanent for €30million (£26m), yet the Spanish side are reluctant to meet that asking price.

The Blaugrana would prefer either to extend the loan arrangement or negotiate a reduced fee. Manchester United, however, are unmoved by such proposals, leaving Barcelona searching elsewhere for solutions.

Rashford's Commitment to Barcelona

Rashford himself has been transparent about his ambitions. Speaking to Spanish publication Sport in late December 2025, he underlined his desire to remain in Catalonia. "Of course, what I want is to stay at Barca," he told the outlet. "It's the ultimate goal, but it's not the reason I'm training hard and giving my all. The purpose is to win. Barca is a huge, fantastic club, built to win titles."

The England international elaborated on the environment he craves, emphasising the importance of elite standards. "There is pressure here, but it's not negative pressure; it's the kind you crave as a player, the kind I want and have always wanted as a footballer," he continued. "I can't be in a place where there aren't high expectations; for me, it's harder to stay motivated and give my best at a club where the demands aren't at their peak."

He concluded diplomatically: "I'm in the perfect place and environment to continue my journey as a footballer, so I'm just trying to give my best every day and help the team win. We'll see what happens next summer."

Gordon Negotiations Ongoing

Bayern's focus remains firmly on Gordon, whom the club pursued without success last summer before Rashford's loan move to Barcelona materialised. The Allianz Arena hierarchy have been conducting serious talks via Gordon's representatives, including German agent Gordon Stipic-Wipfler, who maintains a established relationship with Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl.

The two camps have explored potential structures, though concrete figures have not yet been formally tabled. Newcastle's valuation presents the primary obstacle—the northeast club's £80m demand sits well above Bayern's comfort zone, though a deal closer to £60m with add-ons or staggered instalments might prove palatable.

Should Newcastle insist on the full sum upfront, negotiations would likely reach an impasse.
