Ederson on Red Devils' Radar as Atlético Dither Over Atalanta Fee

Atalanta's Brazilian defensive midfielder Ederson has emerged as a possible target for Manchester United's summer rebuild, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, with the 26-year-old potentially available if Atlético Madrid's protracted negotiations with the Italian club collapse.

The Madrid side have held personal terms with Ederson since February or March but remain unwilling to meet Atalanta's €45million (£39.2m) valuation—a figure the Bergamo outfit might negotiate down to approximately €40m, though dealing with Atalanta rarely proves straightforward.

United's interest in the Brazilian is not new. The club tracked him during Ruben Amorim's tenure as manager, and he has retained admirers within the Old Trafford hierarchy. With Casemiro departing at season's end and Manuel Ugarte's future similarly uncertain, the midfield requires significant reinforcement.

The Red Devils have already earmarked other targets including Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, but Ederson presents an intriguing proposition. His contract expires in 2027, and his modest wage demands make the overall package—transfer fee, salary, and associated costs—comparatively reasonable for a player of his calibre.

As Atlético Madrid's hesitation drags on, Premier League suitors are circling. Romano suggested that should the Spanish club and Atalanta fail to reach an agreement, English clubs stand ready to pounce on a midfielder who remains highly regarded despite his relative anonymity outside Serie A circles.
