Wilcox Backs £55m Hall Move as Man Utd Eye Summer Overhaul Before World Cup

Manchester United's recruitment hierarchy has given the thumbs-up for a marquee summer swoop, with director of football Jason Wilcox championing a move for Newcastle's Lewis Hall as a priority target.

The £55m-rated full-back has become one of the Premier League's standout performers in his position, and his omission from England's World Cup squad appears to have done little to dampen the interest surrounding him. Newcastle, meanwhile, face mounting pressure to shift assets following their Champions League qualification failure, making Hall a realistic proposition for interested suitors.

United face competition from Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich for the 25-year-old's signature, yet sources indicate Wilcox is actively pushing the club to pursue the Newcastle man seriously. Hall himself is understood to be keen on a fresh challenge this summer, with Old Trafford representing an appealing destination.

The left-back would represent a considerable upgrade on current starter Luke Shaw, addressing a long-standing weakness in the United setup ahead of their return to European football's top table.

However, Hall may not be the only arrival before the summer window truly gets going. Fabrizio Romano has suggested that United will move decisively on at least one major target ahead of the World Cup, with negotiations already well advanced on multiple fronts.

Atalanta midfielder Ederson appears to be the most imminent arrival, with personal terms already agreed between the player and the club. Romano claims the Italian side have held face-to-face discussions with United representatives, including a recent mission to Italy to accelerate proceedings. Ederson has signalled his willingness to join and is prioritising the move, leaving the decision firmly in United's hands.

The midfielder's arrival would address a glaring midfield shortage following the departures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, with United understood to be targeting at least two reinforcements in that area.
