Summerville Emerges as United's Prime Left-Wing Target as Rashford Situation Looms

Manchester United have zeroed in on West Ham's Crysencio Summerville as their primary left-wing option, with the Hammers' Championship drop-down offering a potential window to prise away one of their standout performers.

The 24-year-old has emerged as the favourite from a quartet of targets that also includes Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa, Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, and Everton's Iliman Ndiaye. While Summerville endured a modest club campaign, his incisive showings for the Netherlands at the World Cup—before their exit—have caught the eye of United's recruitment team.

Summerville is expected to return to England imminently to sort out his next move, with talks potentially imminent. West Ham's asking price of £50m represents a bargain compared to the £80m-plus valuation on Rogers and the £70m-plus tag on Ndiaye. Fernandez-Pardo, at 21, is viewed as a prospect for tomorrow rather than today, leaving Summerville higher on the pecking order.

The Rashford variable

There's a catch, however. Any swoop for Summerville is contingent on the Marcus Rashford situation reaching a resolution. The England forward spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where his performances impressed, but the Catalans allowed their £26m purchase option to lapse. Barca would prefer another temporary deal, while United are keen to sell and recoup funds for recruitment.

Recent months have seen Rashford's heart set on a Catalan return, yet the picture has shifted. With Michael Carrick now installed as head coach following Ruben Amorim's departure, Rashford appears to be warming to a United reintegration.

Fabrizio Romano reported direct contact between Rashford's representatives and the club within the past 24 hours. Barcelona haven't ruled out another loan approach, but United are adamant they want a permanent exit.
