United Muscle In On Bouaddi as City Battle Hots Up

Manchester United have entered the fray for Lille's prized asset Ayyoub Bouaddi, setting up a potential three-way scrap with Manchester City and a host of Europe's elite clubs for the services of the teenage sensation.

The Old Trafford hierarchy are determined to overhaul their midfield department this summer, with plans to bring in two or three fresh faces. While a £35million agreement with Atalanta to land Ederson is already locked in, the transfer window has otherwise proven frustratingly slow-moving on the recruitment front.

INEOS' refusal to splash cash on inflated asking prices has seen their leading targets slip through their fingers. Elliot Anderson headed to the Etihad, while Mateus Fernandes opted for Spurs instead, leaving United to cast their net wider in search of alternatives.

Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni and Bournemouth's Alex Scott have emerged as fallback options, though neither deal appears straightforward. Now Bouaddi, the 18-year-old Morocco World Cup star, has become another name on United's radar.

According to transfer journalist Ben Jacobs, United have successfully inserted themselves into discussions surrounding the Lille wonderkid, despite stiff competition from City, Bayern Munich and Chelsea. The move represents a significant escalation in United's summer business.

However, the structure of any potential deal remains complex. Lille's valuation hinges on timing. An immediate arrival would command €100m (£86m), though that fee could yet soften. Alternatively, the French club would accept a lower fee of €75-80m (£64-68.5m) if the player returns on loan or operates under a pre-agreement arrangement before joining permanently in summer 2027.

Jacobs suggested that clubs willing to loan Bouaddi back to Lille may hold an advantage in negotiations, given his age and the Ligue 1 outfit's desire to retain him for further development.

Tchouameni remains United's primary target for the defensive midfield berth, with Michael Carrick's side viewing the Real Madrid man as their ideal solution. Yet uncertainty persists over whether Los Blancos will entertain his departure. Scott represents a more realistic secondary option if the Spanish giants dig in their heels.

The question now is whether United will intensify their pursuit of Bouaddi or maintain focus on their preferred targets, with City currently leading the charge for the teenager's signature.
