Spurs Ready to Pounce on Rashford if They Survive the Drop

Tottenham are circling Marcus Rashford and would make their move for the Manchester United winger if they manage to stay up, fresh reports suggest.

The England international headed to Barcelona on a temporary basis last summer, with the Spanish outfit handed a €30m (£26m) option to make the deal permanent. However, with funds scarce at Camp Nou, the Catalan club remain uncertain about exercising that clause.

A return to Old Trafford looks equally unlikely, which means Rashford will almost certainly be searching for fresh pastures come summer. While plenty of suitors would fancy their chances of landing a proven Premier League operator, his substantial wage packet poses a considerable stumbling block.

Spanish outlet Sport now claims Spurs harbour "genuine interest" in the 26-year-old—but only on one condition: that the North London outfit successfully battle back from their current predicament. The club are also eyeing Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi as a potential addition to their ranks.

Romano Breaks Down the Impasse

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the current deadlock surrounding Rashford's Barcelona future. He revealed that the winger has impressed during his time in Catalonia, both on and off the pitch, earning praise from his coaching staff.

"He's always delivered," Romano explained. "From my perspective, he's been brilliant this season in terms of his conduct. Coming to Barcelona and accepting a spot on the bench isn't straightforward for a player of his calibre, but he's handled it superbly. The relationship with his teammates and the manager is excellent, and he's never caused any issues."

The sticking point, however, centres on negotiations between the two clubs. Barcelona are keen to rework the loan arrangement rather than activate the buyout clause, while Manchester United are standing firm—insisting either the option is taken up or Rashford returns for a fresh assessment of his options.

"There's still distance between the parties," Romano noted. "Barcelona are weighing up alternative targets too, so internally they're still deciding whether to push forward with Rashford or explore other avenues."

Rashford himself is content at the Catalan club and hopes to continue his development there next season, but the ball firmly rests in Barcelona's court.

Spurs Scout Backs the Move

Former Tottenham scout Bryan King previously weighed in on a potential Rashford acquisition, suggesting the £26m fee would represent solid business. He stressed that at that price point, landing a player of Rashford's pedigree would be a coup for any Premier League side, though he flagged one concern: getting the player's mentality spot on.

"There's no risk attached to the deal," King said. "He's a talented footballer, but it's about ensuring his head's in the right place—that's the only worry. Spending £26m on someone with his track record wouldn't be a bad investment whatsoever."
