Man Utd Edge Closer to Ederson Deal as Atalanta Talks Intensify

Manchester United are progressing through advanced negotiations with Atalanta to land their headline midfield recruit this summer, with all indicators pointing towards a completed transfer.

The Red Devils face a pressing need to refresh their central midfield ranks ahead of Champions League football and an expanded fixture schedule. Casemiro's departure to Inter Miami as a free agent leaves a significant void, while Manuel Ugarte's sale has drawn attention from Italian and Turkish suitors.

At minimum, United require two new midfield operators—potentially three—capable of making an immediate difference at the highest level.

Ederson Silva, the three-capped Brazilian currently at Atalanta, has emerged as the leading candidate. The 25-year-old signalled his willingness to join United weeks ago, and while personal contract terms remain unsigned, sources suggest these will present no obstacles when formal agreement arrives.

United have tabled a verbal offer of €45m, a figure that sits comfortably within Atalanta's €45m-€50m valuation. The speed of the bid underscores INEOS's determination to get this one over the line without unnecessary delay.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that United have now progressed into the advanced stages with the Serie A side. Crucially, Ederson has publicly committed to giving United his undivided attention, rebuffing overtures from competing clubs in recent days—though not from Atletico Madrid, who had previously agreed personal terms with the midfielder earlier this year before balking at the asking price.

"Ederson is on the market, he wants to go to Man Utd, and he's giving total priority to Man Utd," Romano explained. "Despite another club calling recently about his price, he wants to wait for United. The conversations are happening between United, Atalanta, and Ederson's representatives, but United haven't yet given the final green light to proceed."

The holdup, it seems, isn't financial or personal—it's simply a matter of United deciding to pull the trigger. Atalanta are equally prepared to move once the English club confirms they're ready to complete the transaction.

Ederson's one-year remaining contract naturally depresses his market value somewhat, yet United appear unbothered by Atletico Madrid's previous hesitation over the fee. A deal, it would seem, is there for the taking should United choose to activate it.
