Bruno Fernandes' future at Manchester United remains uncertain heading into the summer transfer window, with fresh speculation surrounding the club captain's potential departure.

The Portuguese midfielder has been a long-standing target for Saudi Pro League clubs, though he opted to stay at Old Trafford last summer despite the Red Devils being willing to entertain offers. His form this season has been notably strong, yet the possibility of an exit continues to linger.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Fernandes could decide to move on if he becomes unconvinced by the direction of United's project. This revelation has prompted former United defender Paul Parker to suggest the club should seriously consider selling their skipper—provided the fee justifies the move.

"Bruno has clearly raised his game and remains vital to this team, but I'm not convinced he's essential for where United should be heading," Parker told PariuriX.com. "He's an excellent footballer who's improved, yet I don't believe he's the type to drive long-term team development."

Parker stressed that any sale would need to command significant resources. "If United can get serious money for him in the summer, turning down that kind of offer would be a mistake," he explained. "Those funds could be reinvested to strengthen the squad across the board."

The ex-United man was particularly forthright about Fernandes' character, describing him as "very egotistical" and suggesting that incoming management may not view him as indispensable. Parker pointed to the midfielder's struggles under Ruben Amorim's system, contrasting this with his greater freedom under Michael Carrick's stewardship.

"A fresh manager arriving might not automatically think he's untouchable," Parker added. "Fernandes has been part of United's wider cultural problems and has contributed to them himself. He's only truly valuable when both he and the team are performing well."

Parker highlighted a concern that troubles many observers: Fernandes lacks the character to inspire teammates through difficult periods. "Some players lift those around them when things get tough—he simply isn't one of them," Parker said. "United has always been built on strong personalities, something the club has desperately lacked in recent years."
