Manchester United have initiated contact with West Ham regarding a potential summer swoop for winger Crysencio Summerville, with direct negotiations between the clubs now underway.

The move sits alongside United's existing summer business, with Atalanta midfielder Ederson primed to arrive following the World Cup. The Red Devils remain keen to add at least one further midfielder, a left-back, and a left-sided winger to their ranks, with possibilities of stretching further for defensive reinforcements or attacking firepower.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, any bid for Summerville could prove dependent on whether United can shift Marcus Rashford from the squad. Jacobs confirmed direct contact between the clubs, describing United's interest as exploratory but acknowledging the Dutch winger ranks highly in their thinking.

Rashford's situation remains fluid following his loan spell at Barcelona, where the Spanish club opted against triggering their €30m purchase option. The England international now awaits clarity on his future at Old Trafford.

Recent developments suggest a potential shift in the narrative, however. Fabrizio Romano reported that Rashford has been sending positive signals to the club about remaining, with the player and his representatives meeting United officials two days prior. The forward appears willing to feature in preseason under Carrick, though the extended transfer window—still eight weeks at the time of reporting—leaves room for circumstances to change.

As Romano outlined: "If a good proposal for Rashford and for United arrives, Rashford could still leave the club in the summer transfer window. If he doesn't, maybe United could find one more player to use. So, United have a wildcard in Rashford, waiting to see what's going to happen on the market."
