Jassim Unlikely to Return with Fresh United Bid as Glazers Weigh Full Sale

The prospect of Sheikh Jassim mounting another takeover attempt at Manchester United has effectively been ruled out, according to reports, even as fresh speculation swirls around the Glazer family's willingness to part with the club entirely.

The Qatari businessman's previous pursuit of Old Trafford ended in disappointment when the American owners rebuffed his advances in favour of Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS investment. That 2024 deal saw Ratcliffe acquire a 27.7% stake—since increased to approximately 29%—complete with a pathway to eventual full control, whereas Jassim had sought nothing less than outright ownership.

Ratcliffe's tenure has proven turbulent, with persistent whispers that his grip on the Premier League side could slip. Bloomberg's latest reporting suggests the Glazers have begun internal deliberations about orchestrating a complete sale, with valuations circulating around £5bn. Such developments might naturally invite Jassim back to the negotiating table.

Not so, claims The Daily Mail's Mike Keegan. The Qatari contingent remains "highly unlikely" to lodge a fresh bid.

The damage, it seems, runs deep. Jassim's group—fronted by Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani—submitted a final offer of approximately £5bn for full control just over three years ago, only to watch the Glazers hand a 25% initial stake to Ratcliffe for £1.3bn instead. That sting has not faded.

Current intelligence suggests the Qatari outfit has not been approached formally or informally to gauge renewed interest. Should contact be established, any new bid would face an icy reception. The group harbours no intention of returning to the table, with sources indicating that Qatar's appetite for another attempt simply does not exist.

The Red Devils' hierarchy, meanwhile, have dismissed takeover chatter outright. A drag-along clause in the original Ratcliffe agreement activated last August, theoretically enabling the Glazers to force through a sale if circumstances warranted it. Yet for now, the Qatari interests remain steadfastly on the sidelines.
