United's Diomande Gambit Faces Summer Reality Check; Amorim's Bruno Influence Revealed

Manchester United have made their move for RB Leipzig's standout performer Yan Diomande, yet the Bundesliga sensation's departure appears destined for the summer window rather than a January switch.

The Red Devils have formally tabled an offer for the highly-sought talent, who has caught the eye of Europe's elite this season. However, Leipzig are holding firm with a demanding valuation: €100 million (£86m) for their prized asset. Without a bid approaching that figure arriving imminently, the German club show little appetite for a mid-season exit.

Diomande has attracted attention from an impressive list of suitors. Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham are all monitoring developments from England's top flight, whilst Bayern Munich, PSG and Barcelona keep tabs from across the continent. The consensus among those tracking the situation suggests the real action unfolds in the summer transfer market, when bigger bids are anticipated.

United's groundwork includes preliminary discussions over a five-plus-one-year contract worth roughly €3.5m annually. Leipzig have permitted these conversations despite their public resistance to a January departure—a signal that serious business could yet materialise when the window reopens in summer.

The move fits United's attacking ambitions. Summer spending exceeded £200m, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha. While Sesko has underwhelmed, Mbeumo and Cunha have delivered the goods, leaving the club increasingly dependent on the pair.

Fernandes Set to Stay

Attention now turns to potential departures that could fund fresh acquisitions. Bruno Fernandes has faced speculation linking him with Saudi Pro League offers, particularly after recent public criticism of club leadership.

Fabrizio Romano has now lifted the lid on how Ruben Amorim played a decisive role in persuading Fernandes to reject Saudi advances last summer. "Ruben Amorim was crucial in convincing him to stay when Saudi proposals arrived, including from Al-Hilal," Romano explained on his YouTube channel. "Amorim pushed strongly for Bruno to remain part of the project."

With Amorim's departure, however, there's no indication that Fernandes' commitment has wavered. "It doesn't mean Bruno will leave. Not in January," Romano stressed. "His focus remains on Manchester United."

Romano did acknowledge that Saudi clubs will inevitably return with fresh approaches ahead of next summer's transfer window, particularly before the World Cup. For now, though, Fernandes remains focused on his Old Trafford responsibilities.

Romano also dismissed speculation surrounding Xavi Hernández and a potential United appointment. "I'm not aware of any talks or negotiations at this stage," he confirmed. While Xavi harbours Premier League ambitions and believes himself ready for a new challenge, nothing concrete has materialised with United.
