Gibbs-White Transfer Stalls as Forest Dig In Their Heels

Morgan Gibbs-White appears destined to remain at Nottingham Forest come summer, despite the attentions of Manchester United and fellow top-flight suitors circling the midfielder.

United's transfer ambitions have stalled on this particular target. Having splashed out over £200m last summer to bolster their attacking ranks with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, the Red Devils notably left a gaping hole in midfield—a shortcoming that left plenty of supporters fuming at INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's planning.

Michael Carrick's arrival as interim head coach has transformed the club's fortunes dramatically. Nine wins from his opening 13 matches have hauled United to the brink of Champions League qualification, freeing up additional funds for the summer window. The blueprint now calls for at least two midfield reinforcements, with Elliot Anderson of Forest, Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali all on the radar.

Gibbs-White represented an intriguing, more attacking-minded option—an England international capable of adding a different dimension to United's midfield. Yet momentum on a deal has evaporated.

According to Football Insider, the transfer pursuit has gone cold, with Gibbs-White now "increasingly likely to stay at Nottingham Forest this summer." The report suggests that should Forest maintain their Premier League status—a position they've strengthened considerably—the club intends to block any exit, placing them in a commanding negotiating position to United's frustration.

While United sit among several clubs monitoring his situation, Forest remain bullish about retaining their prize asset. Journalist Pete O'Rourke underlined Forest's confidence, noting that with Gibbs-White tied to a long-term contract, the club believes they can hold firm. "Right now, I'm not sure he's a priority for Manchester United," O'Rourke explained. "Forest are confident they can keep hold of him if they do secure Premier League survival. They've put themselves in a strong position there now, so as things stand I think a move is unlikely and interested clubs will have to look elsewhere."

McCoist Backs Gibbs-White's World Cup Hopes

Despite the transfer speculation, Ally McCoist has thrown his weight behind Gibbs-White's chances of forcing his way into Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad.

The Forest forward has been in scintillating form of late, notching five goals and one assist across his last three Premier League outings. His overall tally for the campaign stands at 16 goals and six assists across all competitions—a haul that's caught the eye of the Scotland legend.

When pressed on whether Gibbs-White's window had closed for World Cup selection, McCoist dismissed the notion outright. "No, not at all," he insisted on talkSPORT, highlighting the quality of his recent finishing. "His hat-trick was excellent, particularly goals two and three – the header and the volley at the back post were superb."

McCoist acknowledged that previous selection decisions have backfired, with some candidates doing themselves "more damage than good" in recent fixtures. He suggested there remained a genuine case for inclusion, even if his personal prediction leaned pessimistic. "If I am going to be brutally honest, I don't think he will be," he conceded. "But I can understand the case for him to be in it, and the only thing he can do is what he's doing right now, scoring goals, playing well and keep Forest in the Premier League. Then, you give Thomas Tuchel a real dilemma. That is all you can do, pose him a problem."
