Ratcliffe's Immigration Row Leaves United Dressing Room Fuming

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has become a lightning rod for criticism within Manchester United's squad after wading into the immigration debate with comments that have left players distinctly unimpressed.

The 73-year-old co-owner sparked outrage during a Sky News interview when he suggested the UK has been "colonised by immigrants" and warned of mounting economic strain on the welfare system. He also used the platform to express admiration for Reform party leader Nigel Farage—remarks that drew particular ire from the Prime Minister himself, with Keir Starmer describing them as "offensive and wrong."

Ratcliffe subsequently offered what many considered a half-hearted apology, prompting United to release their own carefully worded statement. The Mail reported that the club's response was painstakingly crafted over hours, requiring delicate negotiation between multiple stakeholders.

Inside the dressing room, the mood is decidedly chilly. One senior player reportedly told associates he had "no words" for Ratcliffe's intervention, while another's representatives claimed the co-owner "has a lot to answer for." The Daily Mail noted that squad members were "alarmed" by his public statements, with insiders warning the controversy would not sit comfortably with a group that includes 17 overseas-based players.

Those within the camp have chalked Ratcliffe's comments up to an out-of-touch septuagenarian, while also noting the apparent double standard—players making similar public pronouncements would face far stricter consequences from both the FA and the club itself.
