Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Red Devils have wrapped up all documentation with Atalanta for the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Ederson, with the transfer package valued at €45m (€40.5m plus €4.5m in performance-related add-ons).

The 23-year-old made it abundantly clear throughout May that Old Trafford was his destination of choice, and negotiations moved swiftly once personal terms were ironed out. The deal included a five-year contract—with an optional additional year built in—making this Michael Carrick's first significant reinforcement as he prepares to navigate a busier fixture calendar following United's Champions League qualification.

With Casemiro departing on a free transfer and Manuel Ugarte likely to depart, the club recognises the need for quality depth in midfield. Ederson represents the first piece of that puzzle, though his arrival will require patience.

The transfer window officially opens on June 15, but don't expect to see the Brazilian pulling on a United shirt immediately. Italy's domestic transfer system and FIFA's international clearing protocols mean Ederson cannot be formally registered with the English FA until July 1st—a standard international benchmark that applies to signings from overseas clubs. While the paperwork is done and dusted, and the player has agreed to join United, the bureaucratic machinery simply won't permit his official registration any earlier.
