Manchester United have been presented with a transfer opportunity this summer, with Sevilla keen to offload midfielder Lucien Agoume ahead of the new campaign.

Following Michael Carrick's successful tenure as interim boss, which culminated in a third-place Premier League finish and the permanent managerial role, the Red Devils find themselves in a considerably strengthened position. Champions League football is secured, and the transfer kitty has been bolstered accordingly.

INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have identified up to three midfielders as priority signings, alongside a left-back and left-winger. A striker and centre-back are also being considered, should budget allow.

The rumour mill has already been spinning furiously, with reports suggesting Atalanta's Ederson is close to becoming Carrick's inaugural signing. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson, Brighton's Carlos Baleba, West Ham's Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle's Sandro Tonali have all been mentioned in dispatches.

Now, according to Spanish sources, Sevilla sporting director Jose Ignacio Navarro has taken the initiative to contact United directly regarding Agoume's availability. The midfielder can be secured for €25m or less, with the Andalusian club battling the sort of financial headwinds that have become all too familiar in recent seasons.

Sevilla have also indicated to their English counterparts that rival European clubs are circling, potentially forcing a bidding war. Agoume, a former France Under-21 international, has earned plaudits in Premier League circles for his youth, physical prowess and technical capabilities.

Yet two significant reservations exist. His final months at Sevilla were decidedly underwhelming, and there are scouting concerns about whether his stamina will translate effectively to English football's demands—La Liga's rhythm being notably less intense. The €25m asking price remains an undeniable bargain by Premier League standards, nonetheless.

Meanwhile, Eric Djemba-Djemba has weighed in on United's midfield recruitment, advocating for Real Madrid's Federico Valverde as the club's primary target. Speaking to Goal, the former United midfielder insisted that Valverde's versatility—capable of operating as a box-to-box midfielder, winger or even right-back—makes him the ideal fit for a side intent on reclaiming silverware.

Djemba-Djemba also reflected on Casemiro's departure, admitting regret at the Brazilian's decision to leave. He felt the timing was premature, particularly given the transformation that occurred once Carrick took charge. Despite Casemiro's excellent final months and United's resurgence, the midfielder chose to move on, a decision Djemba-Djemba believes came too hastily.
