United Turn Attention to Camavinga as Casemiro Exit Looms

Manchester United are preparing for life after Casemiro, with Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga emerging as a serious summer target, sources suggest.

The Old Trafford outfit's recent upturn in fortunes has put them in a strong position to mount a Champions League challenge. Since Michael Carrick took over as interim manager following Ruben Amorim's departure, United have posted an impressive record of seven wins, a draw and a single defeat across nine matches, propelling them into third place in the Premier League standings. A top-four finish would meaningfully boost their financial firepower in the transfer market.

The Brazilian midfielder's decision to depart earlier in the year had already prompted United to earmark substantial funds for midfield reinforcements. Yet his recent performances have sparked hope among supporters that a U-turn might be possible, with whispers suggesting the club could revisit contract discussions.

Not so, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel this week, the respected journalist made clear that the situation remains unchanged. "Nothing has shifted," Romano explained, noting that while Casemiro's excellent displays are appreciated, there has been no movement from United towards offering fresh terms. He remains unevaluated on the market, with no other club having secured his signature to date.

Enter Camavinga. The French midfielder could be available from the Bernabéu for as little as £43 million, making him an attractive proposition for United's recruitment strategy. Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke believes United will seriously weigh up a move.

"Midfield is absolutely central to what United want to achieve," O'Rourke noted. "With Casemiro heading out, they need a replacement and want additional quality in that department too. Camavinga would tick plenty of boxes—he's got energy, press resistance, technical ability and serious pedigree, having won multiple Champions League titles at Real Madrid while still just 23."

However, whether Real Madrid would sanction his departure remains uncertain. Should they open the door, O'Rourke cautioned, United would face stiff competition from across Europe's elite clubs all keen to land a midfielder of his calibre.
