Sesko's 96th-Minute Heroics Spare United Against In-Form West Ham

Manchester United's unbeaten record hung by a thread as they battled an in-form West Ham side, only for Benjamin Sesko to conjure a moment of pure class in the dying moments to salvage a draw.

The Slovenian substitute produced an audacious flick from an awkward angle in the 96th minute to level proceedings, a finish that left interim manager Michael Carrick reaching for superlatives in his post-match assessment.

"That's an absolutely stunning finish from that angle—the technique required to generate the power, keep it on target, and execute it like that," Carrick reflected. "Ben's got this in his locker. He's shown it repeatedly, not just since arriving here but throughout training as well. It's what he specialises in."

The United boss was keen to emphasise that Sesko's impact came as no shock, given his proven pedigree in front of goal. Yet Carrick also acknowledged the broader contribution required across the squad, noting that Leny Yoro had similarly influenced proceedings following his introduction.

When pressed on whether the late heroics might earn Sesko a starting berth going forward, Carrick remained measured. "The lads who've been on the pitch have performed excellently, which is why squad depth matters so much," he explained. "Ben's in good shape and ready to progress. It's about striking that balance. We perhaps could've made adjustments earlier, but we were also building momentum at that stage, especially after Casemiro's effort."

The decision-making proved vindicated when Sesko arrived to make his mark, though the United chief suggested a more cautious approach earlier might have altered the evening's trajectory.

Sesko himself expressed mixed feelings about the outcome. "The finish pleased me, but a draw doesn't sit right," he said. "We should've won this.
