Ederson Deal Held Up by Atalanta's New Regime, Romano Reveals

Manchester United's pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson has stalled at the final administrative hurdles, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, though the Brazilian's arrival at Old Trafford appears imminent barring any last-minute complications.

The Red Devils intend to capitalize on their impressive late-season resurgence under Michael Carrick by equipping their incoming permanent manager with reinforcements ahead of a Champions League campaign. The club's shopping list includes at least two midfielders, a left-back, and a left-winger to bolster their ranks.

Ederson has emerged as United's priority target in midfield following an accomplished Serie A season, and discussions have advanced significantly. The player's side has already put pen to paper on terms, leaving only the bureaucratic formalities between United and Atalanta.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained the source of the holdup: "The situation is now very procedural. Atalanta have just appointed Cristiano Giuntoli as sporting director and brought in Sarri as manager. These are the individuals who'll oversee the final negotiations with United.

"United have reached a very advanced stage already. Everything is sorted with the player, and they're dotting the i's and crossing the t's, but Atalanta's new hierarchy means there's a slight pause. The clubs are aiming to wrap this up for somewhere between €40-45m. Unless something extraordinary occurs, Ederson will be a United player."

Former United keeper Peter Schmeichel has backed the signing, highlighting the midfielder's rare blend of attributes. His mentality impresses me too—he operates with drive and character, something Manchester United's midfield desperately needs.

"Against quality European opposition, he doesn't go missing. That matters significantly because playing at Old Trafford demands players who stand up when the heat intensifies.

"I reckon he's got what it takes to flourish in the Premier League, and particularly at Manchester United."
