Glasner's Palace Exit Confirmed: Fabrizio Romano Reveals Man Utd Connection as Austrian Eyes Summer Move

Oliver Glasner's departure from Crystal Palace is now official, with the Austrian manager confirming on Friday he will not extend his deal beyond this summer. The revelation ends weeks of speculation surrounding his future at Selhurst Park.

Glasner disclosed that his decision came months earlier, during an October meeting with Palace chairman Steve Parish. "A decision has already been taken, months ago," he explained. "I had a meeting with Steve in October, during the international break. We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract."

The pair agreed to keep the matter private for three months, prioritising stability during a congested fixture schedule. "We agreed at the time that it was best to keep it between us," Glasner said. "It's the best that we could do, and keep it confidential for three months. But now it's important to have clarity."

Glasner stressed his motivation was purely about seeking fresh challenges rather than any discontent with Palace's infrastructure or transfer activity. "I told Steve I'm just looking for a new challenge. I told him in October that it's nothing to do with the transfer window," he stated. Despite the difficulty of remaining silent, he vowed to maintain his commitment to the Eagles this season. "I promised them today I will give my best to give the best season in Crystal Palace history, the best points tally in history."

The Palace boss also confirmed that defender Marc Guehi will depart the club, though he did not elaborate on the circumstances.

The Man Utd Question

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Glasner's prospects, particularly regarding Manchester United. The transfer expert confirmed on his YouTube channel that Glasner's decision aligns with reporting from Christmas Day and the days preceding his announcement.

On the possibility of Glasner heading to Old Trafford, Romano suggested the picture remains fluid but far from settled. "There is a good connection with some people at Manchester United, particularly Christopher Vivell, who knows German football very well," Romano explained. "However, it is still too early to say he is definitely on their shortlist."

United are in the market for a permanent manager following Ruben Amorim's recent sacking, with the club expected to appoint a successor during the summer transfer window. Other names in the frame include Roberto De Zerbi, currently focused on his Marseille project, and England boss Thomas Tuchel, whom Ineos have long admired.

Romano cautioned that while multiple clubs are monitoring Glasner's situation, concrete talks with United have not materialised. "Many clubs are following his situation, so there will be conversations about his future, but nothing is concrete with United at this stage," he concluded.
