Tchouameni Within Reach If Real Madrid Chase Rodri, Says Report

The possibility of Manchester United acquiring Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni hinges on the Spanish giants pursuing Manchester City's Rodri, according to fresh transfer intelligence.

United's recruitment drive has been extensive following their summer overhaul under Ruben Amorim, who departed in January. The club invested beyond £200m to strengthen their ranks, prioritising attacking reinforcements with the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. The midfield, however, remained a source of considerable frustration for supporters throughout the campaign.

Under interim manager Michael Carrick's stewardship, United have made considerable strides this season, climbing to third in the Premier League standings—a remarkable 12-place improvement on their previous finish. The club's hierarchy remains committed to bolstering the midfield with at least two acquisitions ahead of the summer window.

Reports indicate United have moved away from Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, deemed too similar in profile to academy product Kobbie Mainoo. The search now centres on a midfielder capable of delivering genuine dynamism alongside Mainoo. Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Tchouameni have emerged as primary targets, though Anderson appears destined for the Etihad instead.

That development has elevated Tchouameni's status on United's wishlist. The 26-year-old France international remains in his prime years at the Bernabéu, though several dominoes would need to fall into place for a deal to materialise. The Telegraph reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would need to "harden his interest" in Rodri for the path to Tchouameni to clear, despite Eduardo Camavinga being the midfielder Real would presumably prefer to offload.

Atalanta's Ederson represents a more straightforward alternative. United maintained an interest in the Brazilian during Amorim's tenure, and that tracking continues. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Premier League clubs are circling the midfielder, with Atlético Madrid having reached a personal agreement with the player, though no deal with Atalanta has been struck.

Ederson's contract expires in 2027, making him a potentially shrewd acquisition. His wage demands are reasonable, and Atalanta's €45m valuation could prove manageable as part of a broader package. Should Atlético's pursuit falter, United may well return to the table.
