Manchester United Lock Horns with Liverpool Over Juventus Defender Kalulu

Manchester United have thrown their hat into the ring to compete with Liverpool for the signature of Juventus centre-back Pierre Kalulu, with both clubs reportedly willing to spare no expense in pursuit of the versatile defender.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a standout performer for the Bianconeri despite a frustrating campaign that has left Juventus languishing third in Serie A, a distant 17 points behind Inter Milan. Capable of operating at centre-back or right-back, Kalulu has developed into a key asset during his time in Turin and has caught the attention of several Premier League suitors.

Liverpool had already been linked with the former AC Milan man as one of their priority targets heading into the transfer window. Intelligence from Italian sources suggests there exists a strong belief that Kalulu would depart Juventus should an offer in the region of €40 million (£34.5m) arrive at the Allianz Stadium.

United's Champions League qualification has evidently sharpened their appetite for reinforcements, and they now find themselves in direct competition with the Merseysiders for the defender's services.
