United Step Up Nmecha Chase as Recruitment Overhaul Gathers Pace

Manchester United are intensifying their efforts to land Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with the 25-year-old German international emerging as a genuine target for the summer rebuild.
Having already wrapped up a £38m deal for Atalanta's Ederson Silva, Erik ten Hag's side are far from finished in the transfer market. INEOS are plotting an ambitious squad refresh ahead of United's Champions League return, with midfield reinforcement a particular priority.
The Red Devils could yet add up to three midfielders before the window closes, alongside potential arrivals at left wing, centre-back, left-back and striker. A sprawling list of targets includes Matheus Fernandes, Aurelien Tchouameni, Alex Scott, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson.
Nmecha, though, has caught United's eye after impressing for Germany during their World Cup group-stage campaign. The Dortmund star bagged a goal and assist in the side's 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast, catching the attention of Christopher Vivell, United's Director of Recruitment, who maintains regular dialogue with the player's representatives.
According to German journalist Patrick Berger, a Premier League switch represents a "realistic option" further down the line. Manchester City, Liverpool and Real Madrid are also monitoring the situation closely. For now, though, Nmecha remains settled at Dortmund and fully committed to Germany's World Cup push. Come the new season, his wages are expected to climb into the bracket previously occupied by Niklas Süle.
Pallister Makes Case for Tonali
While Anderson has been touted as a leading midfield candidate—though Manchester City appear better-positioned to land him—former United defender Gary Pallister has made a compelling argument for Tonali instead.
Speaking to GOAL, Pallister outlined why the Newcastle man would be the superior fit. "I'm a fan of Tonali," he explained. "I think he's more of a Manchester United player. When he's on the ball, I think he maybe delivers a little bit more than Elliot Anderson."
Pallister acknowledged Anderson's all-action intensity would suit United's needs, but reckoned Tonali edges the comparison. "In terms of looking at a Manchester United player that I've played with or seen over the years, then I think Tonali's more of a fit," he said. "If they're not prepared to go and pay whatever for Elliot Anderson, I'm not sure what Tonali is but I'm sure they'll be asking £100 million for him as well. That's no disrespect to Elliot Anderson because I think he's a terrific player, as he's proven for England. But I just think for me, Tonali would edge it for Manchester United."
