Barcola Emerges as Top Target as United Plot Rashford Succession

Manchester United are preparing for life without Marcus Rashford by casting their net across Europe's top leagues, with Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola emerging as their leading target to replace the England winger.

Rashford's exit from Old Trafford appears all but sealed. The 26-year-old spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Aston Villa before switching to Barcelona for the remainder of the season, with the Catalan club holding a €30m (£26m) option to make the move permanent at season's end. Former United boss Ruben Amorim had moved to push Rashford out due to disciplinary concerns and inconsistent form, though the player himself has been eager to embrace the Barcelona opportunity.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has indicated that United are banking on both Rashford and striker Rasmus Hojlund departing to generate crucial funds. With Napoli expected to activate their €44m option-to-buy clause on Hojlund following a €6m loan fee, United anticipate recouping approximately €80m across both deals—€50m from Hojlund's sale and €30m from Rashford's permanent switch to Spain. Rashford has already reached personal terms with Barcelona, though the Spanish club continue negotiations with United over the final structure of the deal.

The search for Rashford's successor has yielded a shortlist of five candidates, according to the Manchester Evening News. Barcola heads the wish list, though PSG's valuation has softened considerably from last summer's €100m-plus asking price, with indications they might accept €70m in the upcoming window. The 22-year-old Frenchman has netted ten goals and provided one assist across 22 Ligue 1 outings this term, adding three assists in ten Champions League appearances.

Beyond Barcola, United are monitoring several other attacking options. RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande and Como's Jesus Rodriguez feature on their radar, whilst Strasbourg's Martial Godo is also under consideration. Everton's Iliman Ndiaye, valued at around £15m, represents another possibility—his direct running style and Premier League pedigree offering an alternative avenue should the continental targets prove unattainable.
