Man Utd Bid £69m for Tchouameni as Ederson Doubts Emerge

Manchester United have reportedly lodged a bid to bring Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni to Old Trafford this summer, as Michael Carrick's side gear up for a significant transfer window overhaul.

The Red Devils' impressive second-half surge under Carrick—which sealed Champions League qualification and earned him the permanent managerial post—has set the stage for ambitious recruitment. The club is understood to be pursuing at least two midfielders, a left-back, and a left-winger as priorities.

Whilst Atalanta's Ederson had appeared to be the leading candidate, with the Brazilian midfielder reportedly prioritising a move to Manchester after personal terms were agreed, fresh doubts have emerged regarding the deal. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has highlighted concerns within United's recruitment department about the move.

Spanish outlets now report that United have tabled an €80m (£69m) offer to tempt Real Madrid into parting with Tchouameni. However, the club's hierarchy faces a delicate balancing act: any deal must avoid destabilising the carefully maintained wage structure at the Theatre of Dreams.

The reports suggest United's technical team views the French midfielder as the ideal successor to Casemiro, seeking someone capable of delivering tactical equilibrium, defensive intensity, and immediate command on the pitch. His physical profile is considered perfectly suited to the Premier League's relentless, vertical demands.

Real Madrid remain reluctant to lose one of their key players, yet United intend to counter by emphasising the prospect of a leading role within a project built to compete for major honours.

Keeping Fernandes Locked In

Away from the pursuit of new arrivals, United are prioritising the retention of captain Bruno Fernandes, whose stellar campaign has attracted attention from across Europe and the Middle East.

Romano revealed that behind-the-scenes work has already commenced to keep the Portugal international at the club. Fernandes' season was nothing short of remarkable—30 goal contributions and 21 assists in the Premier League alone, a haul that surpassed Kevin De Bruyne's tally and made history in the process.

Saudi Arabia has long harboured interest in the midfielder, but United are determined to fend off any temptation. According to Romano, the club's ownership, management, coaching staff, and playing squad are all aligned in their desire to retain him as a cornerstone of the project.
