United Make Move for Atalanta's Ederson as INEOS Targets Midfield Overhaul

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Atalanta's Ederson, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS structure now showing the strongest interest in the Brazilian midfielder, according to reports.

The Red Devils face a familiar problem this summer: the need to strengthen in midfield. Twelve months ago, they were criticised for neglecting that area despite it being glaringly obvious where reinforcements were needed. Instead, they splashed the cash on attacking talent, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko to bolster their firepower.

This time around, the approach is different. INEOS have earmarked £150m specifically for three midfield signings, with Ederson emerging as a leading candidate. The 24-year-old has been consistently linked with a move to Old Trafford and is regarded as one of the finest defensive midfielders on the market heading into the window.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United's interest, noting that Ederson could be available for between €40-45m. The journalist also highlighted other names on the shortlist, including Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba, who has been tracked since summer 2025.

However, United face competition from elsewhere. Atletico Madrid have already agreed terms with Ederson, though they have yet to complete a club-to-club agreement and are also negotiating with Wolves over Joao Gomes. Arsenal have made enquiries too, though the midfielder is not considered a priority at the Emirates.

According to Ben Jacobs, Atalanta value Ederson at around €50m, and United have made contact with the player's representatives. The move comes as United prepare for significant midfield upheaval, with Casemiro departing and Manuel Ugarte potentially heading for the exit.

Now, Matteo Moretto has revealed that United have gone further, tabling a contract proposal worth €4.5m net per year to the midfielder. "Manchester United are currently the club that has shown the most interest, offering around €4.5 million net per year," Moretto said. "Arsenal have also made enquiries, though Ederson is not a priority for them. Right now, United appear to have the strongest financial capacity."

It remains to be seen whether Ederson will be the first domino to fall in what promises to be a significant midfield rebuild at Old Trafford.
