Manchester United's Summer Rebuild: Five Positions Targeted After £115m Double Swoop

Manchester United have mapped out their recruitment roadmap for the remainder of the transfer window, with plans to strengthen across multiple departments following their early activity in the market.

The Red Devils have already secured Ederson from Atalanta for approximately £35m, with the Brazilian midfielder's arrival at Old Trafford expected to be rubber-stamped in early July. However, the midfield overhaul doesn't end there. Reports suggest Matheus Fernandes is poised to become their next addition, with United reportedly moving ahead of Arsenal and other suitors in the race for the West Ham playmaker.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 campaign and carries an £80m price tag. His arrival would represent United's response to the anticipated departures of Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro, with the club determined to inject fresh legs into the engine room.

Bournemouth's Alex Scott has also caught the eye at Old Trafford, though the 22-year-old midfielder remains a target for Arsenal as well. Prying Scott away from the south coast would present complications given Bournemouth's desire to tie him down to fresh terms, but United's financial muscle could prove persuasive.

The financial picture has shifted considerably for Erik ten Hag's outfit. The Daily Mail reports that United have "unlocked" an additional £100m through refinancing of Glazer family debt, dramatically expanding their spending capacity this summer. That windfall opens the door to a third midfield recruit, with the club previously eyeing targets across three distinct price brackets: £80m, £40m, and £20m.

Southampton's Shea Charles was among the cheaper options under consideration, though he now appears destined for another Premier League destination. Beyond midfield, United are actively scouting for a left-back, a forward, a backup goalkeeper, and potentially a centre-back addition.
