Manchester United Plot Left-Back Raid with Arsenal's Lewis-Skelly Top Target

Manchester United are preparing a summer push for defensive reinforcements at left-back, having compiled a quartet of targets spearheaded by Arsenal prospect Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The club's hierarchy recognise that Luke Shaw, now in his 30s and beset by injury troubles, requires genuine competition for his starting berth. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia is expected to depart, whilst Patrick Dorgu—recruited as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim's setup—has proven more suited to attacking duties than defensive cover within a conventional back four.

Arsenal's 19-year-old academy graduate has seen his first-team opportunities squeezed following the arrivals of Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie. The congestion has taken its toll on his international prospects too; Lewis-Skelly was notably absent from England's recent 35-man squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan, despite previously featuring in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup considerations.

The left-back is now receptive to a fresh challenge elsewhere in pursuit of regular minutes, and the Gunners are willing to cash in on their homegrown academy product—a deal representing pure profit on the balance sheet.

United's scouts have been actively monitoring Lewis-Skelly as part of a comprehensive left-back review, though they face stiff competition. Everton and Brentford, both currently competing for European qualification, are also circling.

Beyond north London, United's recruitment team have cast their net wider. Crystal Palace's Tyrick Mitchell and Fulham's Antonee Robinson represent established Premier League alternatives, whilst German outfit RB Leipzig's David Raum has earned attention for his consistency in the Bundesliga and performances for the national team—a potential option should United decide to venture into the overseas market.

Shaw's position remains secure regardless, with the England international performing well under interim boss Michael Carrick and unlikely to be offloaded come summer.
