Manchester United's pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba appears to be gathering momentum, with the England youngster now within reach at a significantly lower valuation than summer's asking price.

United find themselves in pole position to secure his signature, having maintained their interest throughout the intervening months.

Their early declaration of intent to both Brighton and Baleba's representatives remains fresh in everyone's minds, and that unwavering commitment has not wavered. Combined with the midfielder's profile and realistic expectations of a lower fee, United appear well-placed heading into the summer negotiations.

The midfield overhaul has become increasingly pressing. Casemiro's contract expires at season's end, while Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes could potentially follow through the exit door.
