McTominay Prioritises New Napoli Deal as Man Utd Circle with Offers

Scott McTominay's immediate future looks set to remain in Naples rather than Manchester, despite mounting speculation over a potential return to Old Trafford.

The Scotland midfielder, who departed United for approximately £25m during summer 2024, has become a standout performer for Napoli. His transformation at the San Paolo has proven particularly notable given his inconsistent form during the club's troublesome 2023/24 campaign, when he was among their more reliable operators before being sold to fund their overhaul.

McTominay's impact in Serie A has been substantial. He played a central role in Napoli's title triumph last season and continues to flourish this campaign, particularly from a more advanced midfield position. His displays have understandably attracted attention from his former employers, with reports suggesting United are pressing hard to bring him back.

However, journalist Nicolo Schira has clarified where McTominay's focus currently lies. The midfielder has received two noteworthy approaches—one from Premier League sides and another from Saudi Arabian clubs—yet his sights are firmly set elsewhere.

"Talks are progressing well for Scott McTominay's contract extension with Napoli," Schira reported on X. "Offered a new deal until 2030 plus option for 2031 and an increase in salary. McTominay has already received two important bids from Premier League and Saudi Clubs but his priority is staying."

The new terms represent a considerable improvement on his existing arrangement, suggesting Napoli are determined to keep hold of their prized asset amid the swirling transfer rumours.

Leonardo Giammarioli, Napoli's global business development officer, acknowledged the club's vulnerability to losing McTominay but expressed faith in retaining him. "Of course I'm worried that McTominay could leave," Giammarioli conceded. "But ultimately, especially Scott, who's a very nice guy, we're happy if he gets to the next level in a couple of years – maybe not now, maybe not next year, but he deserves it. Look at Stuttgart, they wanted to keep Nick Woltemade, but when such an offer comes in, there's not much you can do, when the player wants to go and money is important."

The contrast between McTominay's situation and his previous departure from United speaks volumes. His sale now appears questionable in retrospect, particularly given his flourishing performances abroad. Yet for now, the midfielder appears content to remain at the Stadio San Paolo and push on with Napoli's ambitious campaign.
