Man Utd Eye West Ham's Diouf as Left-Back Priority This Summer

Manchester United could be about to make a bold raid on West Ham's left-back stocks this summer, with El Hadji Malick Diouf emerging as a genuine priority target for the Old Trafford hierarchy.

The Senegal international, acquired by the Hammers from Slavia Prague for £22m plus add-ons last summer, has caught the eye with several standout performances during what has been a testing campaign for David Moyes's side. Despite West Ham's struggles, Diouf has been a bright spark down the left flank and has evidently done enough to attract serious interest from the Red Devils.

United's spending spree last summer saw them splash over £200m on attacking reinforcements, bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko. Yet that investment left a gaping hole in midfield—a frustration that will not have gone unnoticed by INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's circle.

Since Michael Carrick took the reins on an interim basis, the turnaround has been remarkable. Nine victories in his opening 13 matches have dragged United to the precipice of Champions League qualification, and that success should unlock funds for a meaningful summer rebuild.

Patrick Dorgu's injury troubles, combined with his wing-back profile rather than a traditional full-back role, have prompted the search. Luke Shaw remains on the books, but adding depth and quality in that area appears non-negotiable.

The fee remains something of an unknown quantity. According to reports, much could hinge on West Ham's ability to stay up. Should the Hammers find themselves battling relegation, the valuation could shift considerably—a scenario that could work in United's favour come summer negotiations.

Gary Neville, meanwhile, has weighed in with his own blueprint for the rebuild. The United legend spurned left-back reinforcements entirely when naming his targets, instead advocating for two central midfielders and a top-class centre-back.

In his dream scenario, Neville would have Marquinhos, Declan Rice, and Harry Kane walking through the door. Back on planet Earth, he reckons Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson, and Ezri Konsa represent the realistic alternatives—a trio that would certainly give Carrick a platform to build something special.
