Diomande to Stay Put: Leipzig Dash Liverpool and United's Summer Winger Dreams

Fresh disappointment awaits Liverpool and Manchester United in their hunt for attacking reinforcements this summer, with RB Leipzig determined to hold onto their prized winger Yan Diomande.

Both clubs have identified the 19-year-old Ivorian as a key target heading into the transfer window. Diomande has caught plenty of eyes with an impressive campaign in the Bundesliga, racking up 11 goals and six assists across 33 appearances for the Saxony outfit.

The teenager sits high on Liverpool's shortlist as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, while Manchester United view him as a leading candidate to bolster their attacking depth. Yet Leipzig's stance appears immovable on this front.

The German club are intent on retaining their star assets, with Diomande firmly in that bracket. Though technically not unsellable, the winger's valuation has already climbed to around €100 million and continues rising. Crucially, he remains contracted for another four years with no release clause to provide an escape route.

Leipzig are even working on tying him down further, reportedly planning fresh terms that would see the Ivory Coast international pocket a significant financial package. Internally, the club's thinking suggests they would only consider parting ways with Diomande if an astronomical offer arrives – and even then, they appear resigned to losing him no earlier than 2027.

The money, however, has to come from somewhere. Rather than shift their prized winger, Leipzig are preparing to sell elsewhere. Castello Lukeba, the French defender, is the name being lined up for departure. The centre-back has attracted Arsenal's attention among other suitors, with the Bundesliga side open to moving him on should a suitable proposal materialise.

Lukeba is valued in the €65 to €70 million bracket and is understood to be keen on engineering a switch to a top European outfit. All signs point toward the Frenchman heading for the exit this summer.

For Liverpool specifically, the challenge is compounded by their need for multiple attacking options. The Merseysiders are weighing moves for as many as two wingers, with questions over Cody Gakpo's form this term. Beyond Diomande, they're monitoring various alternatives including Anthony Gordon, though that particular pursuit faces its own obstacles.

The arithmetic is straightforward: Diomande remains out of reach at his asking price, Leipzig's resolve appears steely, and suitors will need to look elsewhere or dramatically increase their offers. For now, the teenager appears destined to remain in Germany for at least another season.
