Guimaraes to United 'More Likely' if Carrick Gets the Nod, Says Wyness

Manchester United are eyeing Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes as a potential long-term successor to Casemiro in midfield, with the move looking progressively more feasible should Michael Carrick secure the permanent managerial position.

The Red Devils are actively hunting for midfield reinforcements this summer. Beyond Casemiro's looming departure, Manuel Ugarte is also expected to depart, leaving Erik ten Hag's outfit with a significant rebuild job in the engine room.

Guimaraes has emerged as a target, particularly given Newcastle's struggles to secure European football and the midfielder's subsequent openness to a fresh challenge. The Magpies face a testing window, with Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon also drawing external interest. Should any of these three depart, Newcastle are positioned to bank at least £60m per player.

Tonali appears the most likely candidate for an Old Trafford switch, having secured a 'gentleman's agreement' with his current employers permitting a transfer under specific circumstances.

Former Everton chief Keith Wyness, however, reckons Guimaraes represents the more probable destination. Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness suggested the Brazilian's arrival hinges on Carrick's appointment becoming permanent.

"There's plenty of discussion around Man United, but we need clarity on their managerial position first," Wyness explained. "You simply can't commit to recruitment without knowing your boss for the season ahead."

He added: "Carrick's stock continues to rise, and whilst he's kept his cards close on personnel preferences, I genuinely believe Guimaraes suits his profile. That would strengthen the likelihood considerably. There are hurdles to clear and moving parts everywhere, but a Guimaraes-to-United switch feels increasingly probable."

Former United midfielder Kleberson backed the move wholeheartedly. Speaking to AceOdds, he praised Guimaraes' versatility and all-round game.

"I'd genuinely love to see Bruno replace Casemiro at United," Kleberson said. "He adapts brilliantly to different demands, which explains his success at Newcastle and with Brazil. His approach would flourish at Old Trafford."

Kleberson highlighted Guimaraes' complete midfield toolkit: his reading of the game, defensive positioning, ball progression, and attacking threat from distance. "He's not a shouter, but he prevents problems before they materialise," Kleberson concluded. "That's precisely what makes him such a valuable operator."
