United's Carrick Connection Could Seal Hackney Deal as Gueye Emerges as Casemiro Successor

Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of fresh midfield talent ahead of the summer transfer window, with the departure of Casemiro at the end of his contract creating a significant gap in their engine room.

The search for reinforcements has thrown up several intriguing targets, and Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney has emerged as a leading candidate. "Hayden Hackney is somebody Man United have discussed," Brown explained to Football Insider. "Michael Carrick knows him well, and he knows Michael Carrick, so I have no doubt the question will have been asked by the recruitment team at some stage."

Brown believes Carrick's interest in reuniting with the midfielder is genuine, particularly given United's need to bolster their midfield ranks. "I'm told he is somebody the manager likes and would like to work with again if the opportunity came up, in a position where United want to strengthen," Brown said.

"I think they're going to bring in a midfielder and probably more than one because Casemiro is leaving and he might not be the only one. So Hackney would fit that bill. He's a talented young player who has impressed in the Championship and a lot of clubs are having a look at him."

The former scout underlined the significance of Carrick's presence should he remain in the dugout. "But if United make a move and Carrick is still the manager next season, it gives them a real advantage because of the relationship that is already there."

Beyond Hackney, other midfield options including Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson have been touted as potential additions. United are clearly casting a wide net to address what could be a busy summer in the transfer market.

A more left-field candidate has also caught the club's attention: Villarreal's Pape Gueye. The Senegal international recently claimed the winning goal in the African Cup of Nations final, and United have reportedly identified him as an ideal successor to Casemiro.

Gueye possesses the technical qualities required to thrive in English football, and the Red Devils view him as capable of making an immediate impact. The club could table an attractive proposal to prise the midfielder away from Spain this summer.
