Man United Back in the Hunt for Camavinga as France Snub Opens the Door

Michael Carrick's impressive second-half turnaround has put Man United firmly back in contention for Real Madrid's Eduardo Camavinga, according to the latest reports from the transfer market.

The Red Devils' resurgence under Carrick—who took over from Ruben Amorim in January—has been nothing short of remarkable, culminating in third-place finish and a return to the Champions League. That qualification alone has transformed the club's summer spending power and, more importantly, their pulling power in the market.

Carrick is expected to be handed the permanent manager's role following the team's impressive run of form, a decision that will only strengthen United's position heading into the transfer window. The club has identified a clear shopping list: at minimum, two midfielders, a left-back, and a left-winger.

Camavinga's name has surfaced repeatedly in United's midfield search, though interest appeared to cool when the French international indicated his desire to establish himself as a guaranteed starter at the Bernabéu. That calculus may have shifted dramatically.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown, who maintains strong connections at Old Trafford, believes the Frenchman's exclusion from the France squad for the World Cup could prove the decisive factor in swinging the deal United's way.

"Man United have liked Camavinga for a while now," Brown explained to Football Insider. "They were looking at him when he was in France, but didn't make a move because everybody at the time was aware he would end up at Real Madrid."

"Things haven't quite worked out for him there and it's difficult to see why, because there is undoubted talent and whenever I've seen him, I've been impressed."

The France snub, Brown suggests, could fundamentally alter Camavinga's thinking. With regular football essential to rebuild his international prospects, a move to Old Trafford where he'd have a genuine pathway to consistent minutes suddenly becomes far more attractive.

"He's now been left out of the France squad, and that could be a game changer for him, because he will need to be playing more regularly to prove himself," Brown said. "Man United will be on alert because of that, and if he becomes available as I expect he might, they could be tempted to make a move."

However, Brown suggested Camavinga remains something of a backup option rather than the primary target. Players like Elliot Anderson appear higher on United's wish list for an immediate approach.

"There are other targets on their list who we've spoken about, people like Elliot Anderson, who they are more likely to go after immediately in my opinion," Brown noted. "But if they can't bring in their top targets, and Camavinga is a possibility at a good price, he could certainly be somebody they look to sign."

The combination of United's improved financial position, Carrick's managerial appointment, and Camavinga's need for regular football has created an intriguing window of opportunity for all parties involved.
