Manchester United Ready to Launch £100m Tonali Bid as Liverpool Join Transfer Battle

The summer transfer window looks set to witness a significant scramble for Newcastle's prized midfielder Sandro Tonali, with Manchester United poised to make a decisive move.

Reports suggest the Red Devils are plotting a formal bid worth €115m (£100m) to prise the Italian away from St James' Park. Their pursuit of Tonali is far from a recent development, though sources indicate their interest has sharpened considerably in recent weeks. The stumbling block remains straightforward: Newcastle's valuation. The Magpies have no appetite for a quick sale and are unlikely to budge unless presented with an offer they simply cannot refuse.

Tonali remains firmly in Newcastle's plans and is viewed as untouchable—at least until an approach emerges that makes the club sit up and take notice. United officials are said to be seriously contemplating launching their formal offer, provided circumstances align favourably. However, the club's final decision will hinge upon Newcastle's willingness to negotiate and, crucially, Tonali's own preferences.

Liverpool have now thrown their hat into the ring, accelerating their interest following uncertainty over Wataru Endo's future at Anfield. The Reds have made contact with the former AC Milan player's representatives as they look to bolster their midfield options.

The competition for Tonali's signature extends beyond Merseyside. Arsenal remain keen to strengthen their engine room during the summer window, whilst Manchester City are also understood to be monitoring the situation. Each of the interested parties believes Tonali represents the ideal midfielder for their respective systems.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a crucial juncture approaches around late March or April, when Tonali's camp will hold discussions with Newcastle regarding his future. There's a genuine possibility the midfielder could embark on a fresh chapter come summer 2026.

Romano noted that Juventus harbour ambitions of bringing Tonali back to Italian football, though such a move would prove both financially demanding and logistically complicated. United, meanwhile, have several midfield targets on their radar and are unlikely to commit to any single player until they've resolved uncertainty surrounding their Champions League status and managerial situation.
