Manchester United have locked down their first summer signing, with Ederson officially agreed as their marquee midfield addition. The 26-year-old Brazilian box-to-box operator will join from Serie A outfit Atalanta in a package valued at €45m including add-ons, with personal terms already sorted on a four-year deal plus an optional extra year.

The formalities are merely a matter of procedure now. Medical checks and administrative steps remain, but all parties are plotting completion for early July. Ornstein's confirmation puts an end to speculation that had been building through Tuesday evening, when initial reports suggested an agreement was imminent.

United's midfield overhaul has been prioritised this summer as the club prepares for Champions League football's return. With Manuel Ugarte widely expected to depart alongside Casemiro, landing at least two new midfielders became essential business. Ederson ticks that box as the first piece of the puzzle.

But the Red Devils aren't stopping there. The door could swing open for a second midfield acquisition within the next 48 hours, with Bournemouth's Alex Scott emerging as a genuine target. The 23-year-old midfielder carries a £60m price tag, though Bournemouth are desperately keen to keep him and secure fresh terms. Scott's reluctance to commit to a new contract has created an opening—one that both United and Chelsea are monitoring closely.

Manager Michael Carrick's summer wishlist extends beyond midfield. A new striker, left-winger, centre-back, and left-back all feature in United's thinking as they target at least five signings across the window. The midfield reinforcements, however, were always going to come first.
