United Squad Back Maguire Stay; Carrick Clears Path for Onana Exit

Manchester United's players are firmly behind keeping Harry Maguire at the club, according to fresh reports from the dressing room.

The England international's future remains up in the air with his contract winding down, but there's little doubt among his teammates about which way the decision should go. Maguire, who arrived from Leicester City for £80m, has become a cornerstone figure at Old Trafford after a turbulent early spell, and he's been performing impressively alongside Lisandro Martinez of late.

The consensus among United's squad is crystal clear: letting Maguire depart would be a mistake. One source from within the camp put it bluntly: "The players think it would be madness if he was not offered a new deal. Harry has endured plenty of ups and downs at United but has come through all that and is playing really well."

The 31-year-old's standing in the dressing room is particularly strong. He commands genuine respect from his teammates and has taken on a mentoring role with younger defenders. "He's very well-respected in the dressing room and is passing on a lot of knowledge to some of the younger players like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro," the source continued. "Everyone likes him and respects him and the majority of the players want the club to give him a deal."

The stumbling block remains financial. For Maguire to land fresh terms, he would need to accept reduced wages. Still, the backing of the squad could prove influential in negotiations.

Casemiro's departure on a free transfer come summer has already been confirmed, but the club appears more willing to retain Maguire than to let their vice-captain slip away.

The same cannot be said for André Onana, however. The goalkeeper looks set for the exit door after losing his place to Senne Lammens, who has impressed since taking over as number one. Onana is currently on loan at Trabzonspor, attempting to rediscover his form away from English football.

Michael Carrick, in his interim capacity, has given the green light for United to pursue a permanent sale. Despite Onana's contract running until 2028, the club is actively working to find him a new home this summer. A move away is viewed as the best outcome for all parties involved.
