United Eye Double Brighton Raid as Baleba Door Swings Open

Manchester United's pursuit of Carlos Baleba has received fresh impetus, with Brighton seemingly ready to negotiate a departure for the midfielder after previously blocking his exit.

The Red Devils remain keen to bolster their midfield ranks ahead of the summer window, and Baleba continues to feature prominently on their shortlist. United's interest stems partly from the departures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, leaving a noticeable gap in the engine room that requires reinforcement.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the verbal agreement struck between Baleba and United last year remains intact heading into 2026. The midfielder has reportedly maintained his enthusiasm for a move to Old Trafford, despite Brighton's previous reluctance to do business. Romano explained that several considerations remain in play—including the appointment of a permanent manager and budget allocation—but the player's desire to join United has not wavered.

The fee is likely to hover around £70m, according to reports, though Brighton have historically demanded premium prices for their assets. Journalist Nicolo Schira indicated that the Seagulls have now opened dialogue on the matter, with United actively preparing a formal bid.

Interestingly, United's midfield overhaul could extend beyond Baleba. Other targets including Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Sandro Tonali have been linked with moves to Manchester in recent weeks, suggesting the club intends to make multiple additions to that department.

The potential raid on Brighton doesn't end with midfield reinforcements. United have also maintained a long-standing interest in left-back Ferdi Kadioglu, the Turkish international. Brighton are unlikely to facilitate an easy exit, however, with the English club expected to demand a substantial fee for the defender should they entertain any approach.

United's transfer strategy this summer will prioritise midfield reconstruction, though defensive additions remain a possibility as they continue their squad renovation under new ownership.
