United Ready to Pounce on Hall as Zirkzee Exit Triggers Striker Hunt

Manchester United have their sights set on Newcastle winger-turned-left-back Lewis Hall this summer, with one insider suggesting a move is entirely feasible.

The Red Devils have already secured Ederson Silva and Matheus Fernandes as their opening midfield reinforcements, but the transfer push is far from over. Reports suggest five further additions could yet arrive at Old Trafford before the window shuts.

The immediate priority? Bolstering the left-back department. Michael Carrick's side need genuine competition for Luke Shaw, whose injury record makes it unwise to rely on him alone across a demanding campaign. Hall represents the ideal fit—a player capable of stepping into Shaw's shoes as a long-term successor.

Newcastle, naturally, are reluctant sellers having pocketed £69 million from the Anthony Gordon deal. Yet according to one Manchester reporter, Hall remains attainable despite earlier suggestions otherwise.

"United like Lewis Hall and a deal could be done, with the ideal aim being to find a long-term successor to Shaw," explained Tyrone Marshall. "At the moment, the focus is on a left-back rather than a left-winger."

The pursuit of a striker, meanwhile, hinges entirely on Zirkzee's future. Should the Dutch forward depart, United will intensify their efforts—though they're hunting for a seasoned deputy rather than a marquee name.

Robert Lewandowski's name has circulated, but any serious move appears fanciful. The Barcelona veteran, now 37, looks destined for MLS football with Chicago Fire. Beyond the financial burden of his wages, his stature would likely demand starting football ahead of Benjamin Sesko—a scenario United cannot countenance.

"I can't see this happening," Marshall stated flatly. "United do want an experienced back-up for Sesko, but someone of a lower profile than Lewandowski, who would still command huge wages and is such a big name he would probably expect to start ahead of the Slovenian."

Elsewhere, United have cooled their interest in Sandro Tonali. With Newcastle under no pressure to sell and alternative targets available, pursuing both Hall and the Italian midfielder remains impossible. One or the other—not both.
