Mbeumo's Goal Drought Sparks Old Trafford Worries as United Eye Left-Back Reinforcements

Alarm bells are ringing at Old Trafford over Bryan Mbeumo's recent performances, with internal unease growing around the £71m summer arrival from Brentford.

The 26-year-old arrived last summer in a deal worth £65m plus £6m in add-ons and made an encouraging start to his United career. His opening months yielded ten goals and three assists across 27 outings in all competitions—respectable numbers that suggested the investment would pay dividends.

Yet Mbeumo has hit a rough patch. A six-game Premier League run without finding the net has coincided with what observers describe as a noticeable dip in his overall contributions. Whilst his underlying play hasn't completely fallen apart, the numbers tell a concerning story for a player of his calibre.

Former United scout Mick Brown has articulated the frustration brewing behind the scenes. "He's been way off it in recent weeks, nowhere near his usual standard," Brown explained. "When players have dips in form like that it's always going to be a concern."

The situation was compounded by an incident against Aston Villa, where Mbeumo reacted poorly to being substituted. Brown suggested the forward's reaction to that tactical decision didn't help his cause, despite having little legitimate grievance with the manager's call. "He needs to get his head down and get back to his best, because he's an important player for Man United and somebody Michael Carrick rates highly," Brown added.

Elsewhere, United are actively planning reinforcements in defence. The club has identified left-back as a priority area for summer recruitment, specifically seeking to provide Luke Shaw with both cover and genuine competition for his position.

Shaw has enjoyed a solid campaign this term, yet his well-documented injury history remains a concern. With his contract situation also heading towards a conclusion, United recognise the need to strengthen the flank. Midfielder improvements are expected to dominate the club's transfer agenda, but bolstering the left-back position has emerged as another key target heading into the summer window.
