Manchester United are quietly confident of pulling off a summer swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, positioning themselves as frontrunners ahead of Liverpool in the race for the Frenchman's signature.

The Red Devils have already wrapped up a £35m transfer for Atalanta's Ederson, but with Casemiro heading for the exit and Manuel Ugarte also seemingly bound for pastures new, manager Michael Carrick remains keen to bolster his midfield options further. West Ham are demanding £85m for Southampton academy product Mateus Fernandes, with United having opened preliminary discussions around the English midfielder.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano's latest analysis, the INEOS hierarchy have identified Tchouameni as their "dream target" for the position. "Man Utd love Aurelien Tchouameni," Romano explained on his YouTube channel. "They believe he's one of the best midfielders in the world and would love to make it happen." He cautioned, though, that Real Madrid currently regard the 26-year-old as integral to their plans both now and in the future, noting that previous friction between Tchouameni and Federico Valverde complicated matters.

Fresh intelligence from TEAMtalk suggests Tchouameni's Madrid exit has become "a strong possibility" this summer, with Premier League heavyweights United and Liverpool identified as his most likely destinations should the midfielder decide on an English move. The report notes that sources believe both clubs genuinely fancy their chances of securing his services.

A More Attainable Prize

Yet Spanish journalist Miguel Serrano points toward fellow Los Blancos midfielder Eduardo Camavinga as a more realistic proposition for United's summer recruitment. Serrano claims Real Madrid's new manager Jose Mourinho intends to inform Camavinga directly that he sits fourth in the midfield pecking order, with the club encouraging his departure as mutually beneficial.

With his representatives already canvassing the market, Camavinga is reportedly receptive to a Premier League switch alongside interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. Real Madrid have slapped a £52m price tag on the midfielder's head.

Of England's elite clubs, United have "taken the closest look" and demonstrated the strongest desire to strike a deal, according to Serrano—though Liverpool remain actively pursuing the player as well.
