Casemiro Tips Guimaraes as His Successor; United Readies £200m Midfield Revamp

Manchester United are gearing up for a significant reshaping of their engine room, with Casemiro's exit at season's end prompting plans to invest heavily in fresh midfield talent.

The veteran Brazilian has already made clear his intention to depart when his contract expires, leaving the Red Devils searching for reinforcements. After missing out on Brighton's Carlos Baleba last summer, the club's scouting operation has drawn up an ambitious shopping list.

According to reports, United are eyeing three primary targets and could feasibly bring in up to three midfielders before next season kicks off. Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Elliot Anderson top the wish list, though Adam Wharton and João Gomes remain firmly in consideration. The financial backing appears unlimited, with INEOS prepared to splash around £200m (230 million euros) on this overhaul.

Casemiro himself has weighed in on proceedings, reportedly recommending Guimaraes as his natural successor while backing a move for Gomes. The connection between all three Brazilians may explain such enthusiasm, though it's worth noting the quality speaks for itself.

The shortlist shares an unmistakable pattern: every name on it boasts proven Premier League experience and established credentials in English football. These aren't experimental signings—they're calculated acquisitions designed to restore United's title credentials.

Former Red Devil Gordon Strachan, however, offers a cautionary note. Speaking to Poker Scout, he argued that chasing an identical Casemiro clone would prove futile. Instead, Strachan suggested the club should target the best available talent in each position rather than obsessing over finding a carbon copy. He highlighted Crystal Palace's Wharton and Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney as viable alternatives who could fill the void, even if they don't replicate the departing midfielder's exact profile.

"Manchester United simply cannot replace a player like Casemiro, because over the years he's been fantastic at what he does," Strachan explained. "Clubs these days think they need a replacement who looks and plays exactly like a player who's leaving, but Manchester United should accept that it will be a slightly different player to the Brazilian."
