Central midfield remains a priority, and Nottingham Forest's Anderson sits high on United's wish-list. Yet the club has drawn a line in the sand regarding their negotiating stance. "They have made it clear they will not get involved in a bidding war, nor will they overpay," Stone explained in a Q&A for the broadcaster.

The complications are twofold. Manchester City are leading the charge for the midfielder's signature, with a host of other suitors queuing behind them. Meanwhile, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has shown little inclination to make business straightforward, determined to keep the asking price steep for a player still contracted until 2029.

Hall's Exit Route Blocked

The pursuit of Newcastle's Lewis Hall as a left-sided reinforcement faces its own hurdles. With Patrick Dorgu seemingly destined for a more attacking berth rather than a defensive full-back role, Hall would theoretically compete with Luke Shaw.

Yet Newcastle's circumstances have shifted. Having already offloaded Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and with Sandro Tonali seemingly destined for the exit door, the Magpies find themselves with considerably less pressure to cash in on one of English football's most promising young talents.

The Barcelona striker represents the profile of experienced forward United might ordinarily target to shoulder some of the burden from Sesko. The stumbling block?
