Manchester United are gearing up for a summer assault on the transfer market, with Inter Milan midfielder Nicola Barella emerging as their primary midfield target, sources suggest.

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has thrown Aston Villa's Amadou Onana into the conversation as a realistic option, estimating his valuation at approximately £50m. Wyness told Football Insider that Onana represents "a very classy player" with considerable mental fortitude and technical quality, suggesting he could "flourish" at Old Trafford. Villa might themselves be open to exploring a more combative midfield approach, according to Wyness's assessment.

Scholes Favours Tonali

United legend Paul Scholes has publicly advocated for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali as a summer recruit, notably backing him above Arsenal's Declan Rice. Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes described Tonali as "brilliant" and "very good," positioning him ahead of Rice in his pecking order. While acknowledging Rice's considerable attributes, Scholes suggested the England midfielder occasionally over-complicates matters with excessive touches and unnecessary flourishes. Tonali, by contrast, delivers the requisite quality more consistently in Scholes's view, though both players merit consideration.
